TRAINING (PLANNED COURSES for 2011)

Du Métier offers training to Transport Companies for the training of their own investigators. Due to the background of our lecturers we are in the unique position to give practical training with information gained from first hand experience. In our training we prepare the investigator, so that he will be able to supply the relevant information to the court. He must be able to communicate the information in an affective manner, so that the court will be able to properly understand this information, and effectively use the information in the formulation of the findings.

In our training we introduce the investigator to the basic principles of accident reconstruction so that he will understand the purpose of his investigation. We supply him with the tools to effectively communicate the information to the court (drawing of plans, photography and report writing). We further teach the investigator proper investigation procedures to ensure a complete investigation.

We have a number of courses available:

1. Basic Accident Recording (1 week) - (COURSE ONLY AVAILABLE ON SPECIAL REQUEST) (($600-00 US)) - LEVEL 1

This course was designed as a very basic course for Transport Operators and Loss Adjusters not specialising in Motor Vehicle Accident Investigation.

The course includes the following subjects:

• Introduction to accident investigation
• Safety on scene
• Basic photography
• Measurements and the rough sketch
• Basic scene investigation
• Basic vehicle examination
• Introduction to heavy vehicle examination
• Introduction to basicspeed calculations

2. Basic Accident Recording (2 weeks) - R 6500-00 (excl VAT) (($1100-00 US)) -LEVEL 1

This course was designed as a basic course for all Police and Traffic Officers that do not specialise in accident investigation.Candidates mustbe in possesion of a matric certificate/high school diploma for this entry level course.

The course includes the following subjects:

• Introduction to accident investigation
• Safety on scene
• Investigation procedures
• Handling of exhibits
• Accident victim support
• Aquisition of information at the scene (For completion of the AR)
• Basicscene investigation
• Basicvehicle examination
• Official recording of data (OAR or AR, case docket, Plans, Photo Album, A1 statement/report)
• Introduction to advanced/expert investigation

3. Basic Accident Investigation (2 weeks) - R 6500-00 (excl VAT)(($1100-00)) - LEVEL 2

A course designed for law enforcement officials and loss adjusters specialising in accident investigation. The purpose of the course is to train officials to properly investigate the accident scene and to collect all information and exhibits according to the applicable legislation. Candidates must be in possesion of a matric certificate/highschool diploma. (Maths and science as subjects preffered.)

The course includes the following information:

• Introduction to Accident Investigation
• Safety on scene
• Criminal Procedure Act (Chain of evidence)
• Accident scene Photography (Including practical session)
• Collision scene measuring and plan drawing (Including practical session)
• Investigation procedure
• Investigation of scene (Tyre marks, other marks, vehicle positions)
• Examination of vehicles (Tyres, Lamps, Brakes, Suspension, etc.)
• Investigation of heavy vehicles (Brakes, Loads, Recording equipment, etc.)
• Introduction to expert investigation
• Introduction to speed calculations (Energy principles)

4. Advanced Accident Investigation (2 weeks) - R 6500-00 (excl VAT) (($1100-00)) -LEVEL 3

An advanced course designed for law enforcement officials and other specialists. The pupose of the course is to train these officials to properly investigate and analyse the accident scene. Candidates must be in possesion of a LEVEL 2 Accident Investigation certificate, and must have at least one (1) year applicable experience in the field of Accident Investigation.

• Revision of basics
• Accident scene photography (Advanced techniques and night photography)
• Collision scene measuring and plan drawing (Revision)
• Investigation procedure
• Scene investigation (Advanced principles and techniques, Scene Audits)
• Expert Investigation (Interpretation of evidence: Scene, Tyre marks, lamps, Basic tyre analysis, Basic failure analysis)
• Combining scene and vehicle analysis for findings
• Speed calculations (Energy, momentum, speed from skids, speed from yaw)
• Collision analysis for calculation purposes
